Amateur architecture
Wang Shu+Lu Wenyu
I have visited several buildings designed by Amateur Architecture. One of the structures that first caught my attention was the "Ceramic House," a small building within an architecture park covered with ceramic test tiles crafted by a ceramic artist friend of theirs.
The impressive monumental Historical Museum in Ningbo was constructed partly using rubble from demolished buildings as part of the city's modernization efforts.
Amateur Architecture also successfully blended traditional and contemporary elements to create a harmonious architectural environment for the buildings on the Art University campus in Hangzhou .
The Bibliographical Museum in Hangzhou collaborated with local ceramic factories to produce the vast amount of Seladon tiles required for its large panels. The museum features impressive wood constructions, massive earthen walls, traditional Chinese landscape gardening, and a temple situated uphill.
