Chladni

Ernst Florens Friedrich Chladni, a German physicist and musician, is recognized for his significant contributions to the field of acoustics. His pioneering research focused on vibrating plates and the determination of the speed of sound in various gases.

This groundbreaking work was inspiration for the use of vibrating plates in the creation of ceramic tiles, where ceramic pigments are distributed through vibration and then fused onto the surface. The successful realization of this concept was made possible with the skills and collaboration of Ruth Schnell and Patricia Reis from the Department of Digital Arts at the University of Applied Arts Vienna.
