Temmoku

After returning from Japan in 1991, I continued work in my 1988 established studio in Webgasse, Vienna's sixth district, until 1997. Drawing inspiration from my experiences in Kyoto and various pottery centers in Kyushu, I ventured into the production of functional ware. My creations bore the imprint of Japanese tradition but also of modern design aesthetics, as adopted through my studies at Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam 1980/81. Employing techniques learned during my time at Kyoto University of Arts, I relied on a palette of four distinctive glazes: Seto yellow, rusty red, a celadon hue, and Temmoku. These classic Chinese glazes, later embraced by Japan, lent a timeless character to my work.
